29 Sep 2011

In a dedicated ceremony that took place during the Greeport Congress, Hamburg 14 September, the ports of Cork (Ireland) and Peterhead (UK) were awarded with the Port Environmental Review System (PERS) certificate. The certification verifies that the ports’ environmental management programme is in line with the requirements set by the EcoPorts PERS, the only port sector specific environmental management standard.
The Chairman of ESPO, Mr. Victor Schoenmakers congratulated the two ports on their significant achievement while highlighting the importance placed by ESPO to the continuous promotion of the EcoPorts tools within its membership.

Mr. Denis Healy, Manager Environmental Services, received the PERS certificate on behalf of the Port of Cork. Cork has been a long supporter of the Ecoports approach maintaining its PERS certification since 2006. Mr. Richard Baird, Health and Safety Manager received the certificate on behalf of the Port of Peterhead. Peterhead was first certified by PERS in 2008.
